Betfred columnist Owen McMahon shares a couple of tips for the final day of the 2022 Dante Festival at York
After a tricky first day, we managed our first winner of the Dante Festival on Thursday, courtesy of Queen Olly, tipped up at 3/1, in the penultimate race. That came after a respectable second in the Dante itself, so today’s aim is to go one better and tip a winning double to close out the week.
Wasting no time, I like the look of MIAMI GIRL, at 10/3, in the 1.50 – a Listed, five-furlong sprint for two-year-old fillies.
Just like Queen Olly yesterday, the selection is another juvenile owned by Amo Racing, who like I said yesterday are having a brilliant season so far. This looks like another cracking prospect they have on their hands.
She made a winning debut just under two weeks ago, in a competitive-looking maiden on 1,000 Guineas day, and was super-impressive, winning by a very comfortable five-and-a-half lengths despite running green throughout.
Richard Hannon’s juveniles often improve massively for a run, and she looks the type to do just that. Any improvement will surely see her go very close indeed.
York Dante Festival Odds
The final pick of the 2022 Dante Festival comes in the very next race, at 2.25 – another Listed fillies’ contest, this time over 1m.
I was surprised to see PERFECT NEWS as big as 4/1 here. She’s inferior, on official ratings, to just one of the other 11 runners, and for me she boasts the best piece of form courtesy of her 4th behind 1000 Guineas winner Cachet in the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket last month.
Not only that, but I think she’s going to absolutely love this step up in trip and her trainer William Haggas is in superb form as of late.
John & Thady Gosden’s Grande Dame, who is a filly I was very taken by on her debut the other week, are in the ‘could be anything’ bracket, but she has it all to prove and for me is well worth taking on at the prices.
To put it frankly, I would be disappointed if Perfect News doesn’t at least feature at the finish here. She’s the one they all have to beat.
