Women’s Euro Odds: Ellen White favourite for top scorer

Women's Euro Odds: Ellen White favourite for top scorer

There’s only a few weeks to go until the Women’s European Championship gets underway at Old Trafford and so it makes sense to familiarise ourselves with some of the attacking talent on display at the tournament.

We’re doing that today by taking a look at the top scorer market and trying to pick out some value picks!

Ellen White – the Lionesses’ all-time top scorer with 50 goals in 107 appearances – leads the betting at 5/1.

That’s no real surprise given her unbelievable record for her country and the fact that England (7/4 to reach the final) seem likely to enjoy a long tournament even if they don’t ultimately lift the trophy. That perhaps isn’t the most exciting bet, though, so let’s take a look at the names further down the field

Alexia Putellas, who won the Ballon d’Or Feminin last year, catches the eye at 11/1. The Barcelona forward was the top scorer in the Women’s Champions League last season and scored 17 in 19 in all competitions.

10/1 for Vivianne Miedama, who is widely considered the best goalscorer in the women’s game, seems a good price – although it’s worth noting that the 25-year-old is coming off the back of probably her worst season to date.

Stina Blackstenius adapted to life in England quickly after her move to Arsenal in January – scoring 6 goals in 631 WSL minutes. She has scored 17 in 21 in her native Sweden before moving to these shores. She is priced at 20/1 – as are Lieke Martens and Ada Hegerberg, who are both well worth a look based on recent form.

If we’re talking really big prices, Pernille Harder at 50/1 looks excellent value. The Danish forward, although one of the silkiest forwards in the country, doesn’t have a big reputation as a goalscorer in England.

She has 15 goals in 38 WSL appearances but plays a slightly more unselfish role for Chelses side – in the Bundesliga she scored 68 in 76. For her country, more pertinently, she scored 7 in 8 in Euro Qualifying. Denmark don’t exactly have an easy group but 50/1 seems a very generous price for a player who has the goalscoring ability of Harder.
