Smith and Leishman excited to for pairs event

Australian duo Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman (Outright 9/1) are looking forward to playing TPC Louisiana on Thursday with the duo seeking to defend their title in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

They won the pairs event last year after overcoming South Africa pair Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a tense play off.

For Smith, it was his second victory in the PGA Tour event after he won with Swede Jonas Blixt back in 2017, when the event was switched to pairs for the first time.

He arrives into the tournament on the back of a strong showing in The Masters, where he ended the first Major of the year tied for third, though he missed the cut in the RBC Heritage last weekend.

Leishman, meanwhile, was tied for 30th at five-over par in Augusta and is seeking a first tournament win since last year’s event.

Smith says he is excited to return to Louisiana and believes the course is in perfect condition for him to fare well once more.

“It’s nice to be back,” he said. “I think Leish and I fell in love with this place a little bit last year, the way it played, firm and fast and a bit of wind.

“Looks like more of the same this week. So looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and trying to win this thing again.”

Other pairs taking part include Masters winner and current world number one Scottie Scheffler, who takes to the tee with Ryan Palmer (Outright 9/1).

Current Open champion Collin Morikawa is also in action, alongside Norwegian Viktor Hovland (Outright 8/1JF) who is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour.
