O’Sullivan in command in Sheffield

Robertson in danger against Lisowski

Six-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan extended his lead to 11-5 over Stephen Maguire as he looks to book his place in the semi-finals of the Betfred World Championship (O’Sullivan 11/8 to win the tournament – outright).

O’Sullivan is now just two frames away from a record 13th Crucible semi-final after a magnificent performance on Tuesday.

He led 6-4 before the evening session and then won five of the last six frames in the second session to move one step closer to the final four.

Maguire did show some signs of resilience as he hit back with breaks of 62 and 73 to claim the first two frames in the second session, but O’Sullivan soon got back into his groove.

Maguire, who has lost his last three previous meetings with O’Sullivan at the Crucible in Sheffield, will now need to take eight of the last nine frames to avoid a fourth defeat when they resume at 10.00 today.

The winner of Wednesday’s tie will face John Higgins or Jack Lisowski in the semi-finals, and it is the former that has a narrow lead after their first session.

Higgins leads 5-3 after a tense opening session on Tuesday, and he is still on track for a fifth world title this week.

Both players made numerous errors with the pressure on, and the pair will hope to get into more of a rhythm on Wednesday morning.

Elsewhere, 2019 champion Judd Trump (10/3 to win the tournament – outright) came from 2-1 down to lead Stuart Bingham 5-3.

China’s Yan Bingtao and Mark Williams (Bingtao 5/6, Williams evens – Match Result) look like they will fight to the very end in their quarter-final, with the match level at 8-8 after Bingtao surged back on Tuesday evening from having lost the opening session 6-2 to level matters.

They play to a finish from 14.30 on Wednesday afternoon as Williams continues his quest for a fourth world crown, with the winner earning the right to face either Trump or Bingham in the last four.
