A pensioner punter’s big win at Betfred could hardly have come at a better time.
Scotsman Allan Neil, 69, is celebrating winning £60,000 from a £2 wager on the French Lotto.
He’s about to retire from his building company Allan Neil Builders and his new-found wealth will come in handy when it comes to buying a new car and jetting off to Spain.
Allan, who lives near Edinburgh, said: “I picked the numbers – 5, 18, 22 and 23 – twenty-odd years ago. They were random choices, for the 49s numbers game originally, and I’ve stuck with them.”
The father-of-three, who is also a grandad-of-four, has worked all his life, originally as a joiner and latterly as a groundworker… sometimes completing 12-hour shifts.
“I’m thinking of retiring this Christmas, so this win couldn’t have come at a better time,” he went on.
“I’ll be getting myself a £30,000 new car and putting the rest of my winnings in the bank after a holiday to Spain.
“I’ll also be getting a little surprise for my wife and daughter.”
Betfred boss Fred Done said: “Allan is a loyal customer who has been full of praise of the odds we offer at Betfred.
“I’m chuffed to bits he’s won big from such a tiny stake.”
