Hammers complete signing of defender Aguerd

Noble has faith in Hammers' home hopes

West Ham United (Top six finish 7/2) have strengthened their back line with the arrival of Moroccan international defender Nayef Aguerd from French side Rennes.

The left-sided centre-back has penned a five-year contract at the London Stadium and joins for a fee in the region of £30million.

He had been a Rennes player for two years following a move from fellow French outfit Dijon, and he made a total of 66 league appearances, netting five goals.

The 26-year-old has also been a mainstay of the Morocco team for six years after making his debut in 2016, and he has gone on to win 25 caps.

Manager David Moyes had been keen to add more depth to his defence after an injury-laden season last year.

Angelo Ogbonna missed a large chunk of the season, while fellow defenders Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma, and Issa Diop all suffered niggling injuries at various points of the campaign.

Aguerd is the fourth most expensive signing in West Ham’s history, following Sebastien Haller, Felipe Anderson, and Zouma.

The defender says he is very excited at the challenge of playing in the Premier League.

“I was really excited when I heard about West Ham’s interest,” he said. “I knew I needed to go to the Premier League; it’s a dream for every player.”

“West Ham is a historic club. I saw a few of their games this year, and I saw the fans, and the atmosphere were fantastic, with the bubbles!”

West Ham ended last season in seventh place and qualified for the Europa Conference League in the process.

They also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League and lost out narrowly to eventual winner Eintracht Frankfurt.

Aguerd could make his debut on 7th August as the Hammers host Premier League champions Manchester City (Match betting – West Ham 6/1, draw 10/3, Man City 2/5) on the opening weekend.
