The halfway stage at the Semi-Final juncture suggests a Ronnie O’Sullivan v Judd Trump final for the 2022 Betfred World Snooker Championship – but we’ve all been around long enough to know better than to try and predict this most unpredictable and dramatic of sports.

This afternoon, Ronnie and John Higgins traded the first twelve frames before the Rocket took the ascendency in frames 14 and 15. However, the sixteenth could prove critical as Higgins broke down on 58, and the frame went to the six-time champion on a re-spotted black.

The Wizard will need to draw on all his experience to recover from what was the session’s final frame. Looking at trailing 9-7 that suddenly became a 10-6 deficit, and will have the Wishaw-born maestro stewing overnight.

In the other semi-final, Mark Williams and Judd Trump traded frames in the morning session, with Trump maintaining his six-frame advantage as they resume tonight. Trump could book his place in the final if taking six of tonight’s eight frames.

As for a centuries update, we approach Friday’s final sessions fourteen short of last year’s record of 108. It looked a long odds-on shot that the record would fall for the second successive year, but just five tons in the 32 semi-final frames so far means it will be a tight call – with the current favourite being another 11 centuries, and 105 overall, to be hit.
