After falling short of reaching their third straight Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs have undergone some notable roster changes.

The bulk of that has come in the passing game with a few new faces for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw to next season. Mahomes has quickly become impressed by Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s ability to pick up the playbook.

“I think he’s done a great job of learning the offense really fast and making plays when his number’s been called,” Mahomes said at his press conference via Pro Football Talk. “He’s a smart guy, so you can see why he’s able to pick up stuff so fast. And he has a good feel for everything, especially there in the earlier part when we had a couple of guys banged up — he got a lot of reps and made a lot of plays.”

The Chiefs are hoping that Valdes-Scantling can help feel the massive void of Tyreek Hill’s departure as a deep-ball threat. He had previously served that role with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers.

He will have every chance to be a big playmaker for Mahomes down the field. Valdes-Scantling has struggled with injuries, but he has the chance to prove to be a key factor in the Chiefs’ offense.

Travis Kelce will remain Mahomes’ primary receiving target, but the mixture of Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Josh Gordon should elevate Kansas City forward.

The Chiefs will have the tough task of playing in what may be arguably the toughest division in the league, but they possess the talent to make another Super Bowl push.
