AJ vows to bounce back

Anthony Joshua believes he can earn revenge against heavyweight rival Oleksandr Usyk when the pair clash for the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO titles in August (Usyk 4/9, Joshua 19/10, Draw 18/1 – Bout Winner).

Usyk beat Joshua by unanimous decision to take the belts from the Brit in September 2021 and the pair are set for a second meeting on August 20th.

The official announcement was made on Monday with the card scheduled to take place at the Jeddah super Dome in Saudi Arabia.

They were expected to square off earlier in the year, however, Usyk has been in his homeland of Ukraine helping the war effort against Russia.

Joshua was out-boxed when they stepped out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he is confident of setting the record straight this summer as he looks to become a three-time world champion.

“If you know my story, you know I’m the comeback king,” Joshua said.

“You can put me down, but it’s difficult to keep me down. The hunger is still there. Blips happen, things happen in life, but resilience, mental toughness and consistency will always prevail.”

Usyk, who boasts a 19-0 record, was given permission to leave Ukraine in March and has been in training ever since.

“We are not in the best conditions at the moment back home [in Ukraine],” Usyk said.

“I never made some very loud and bright speeches, all I did was just work hard in my training camp, my gym, that’s what I’m going do until the date of the fight.”
