It’s a busy Thursday of racing in the UK and Ireland with six meetings in total with the action set to get underway first at Newbury at 13:00.
Newbury stages eight races this afternoon, finishing up after the 16:50 and the feature is the 15:10 – the listed Greatwood British EBF Stakes, when six fillies line up.
Stay Alert (9/4) is expected to be in the mix after winning at Wolverhampton on her second outing before following up with a second place over this C&D last month, while Ching Shih (6/1), Elegant Verse (11/2) and Golden Lyra (6/5) are the other obvious contenders.
Yarmouth stages seven races this afternoon, between 13:50 and 17:00, while the meeting at Nottingham gets underway at 14:00 and finishes up after another seven races at 17:05.
Haydock’s seven-race card is due to begin at 16:55 and goes on until the finale there at 19:55 with the third race at 17:55 one of Betfred’s ‘Free Bet If Second’ promotional contests.
In it, Fox Hill (5/1) could well be the one to watch after impressing at Nottingham over 6f last week when winning in a first-time visor. Back down in trip and under a 5lb penalty shouldn’t affect her too much, especially if the headgear has the same impact.
Uttoxeter’s evening meeting is the last to get underway in the UK, starting at 17:35 and running until the seventh and final race there at 20:35.
In Ireland today, Leopardstown is the focus with a Group 3 contest at 18:15, the Ballycorus Stakes. Only five runners will line up and all have a chance but C&D winner Real Appeal (7/2), and Pretreville (11/4) are the most likely candidates, with the latter particularly impressive when taking the Amethyst Stakes at this course last month.
There are seven races in total today at Leopardstown, starting at 17:15 and finishing up with the 20:15.
