Rhinos lose two more to suspension

Leeds Rhinos have lost two more players ahead of their Betfred Super League clash with Salford Red Devils after forwards Matt Prior and Morgan Gannon were hit with suspensions (Leeds Rhinos 40/1 to win the Grand Final).

The Rhinos do not play again until May 15, when they travel to the AJ Bell Stadium to tackle Salford. Leeds have improved their fortunes in the league table after successive victories over Toulouse Olympique and Hull KR but the 12-0 success over the Robins came at a price.

Prior and Gannon, who scored tries against Tony Smith’s side, will now miss the game against Salford, as well as the clash with Wakefield Trinity five days later.

Prior was handed a two-match ban for Grade B tripping, while Gannon’s Grade C charge came after he touched an injured player following a tackle.

Leeds will be able to welcome back Zane Tetevano and James Bentley from their recent suspensions against Salford, while Salford’s Kallum Watkins will be unable to play his former club after being handed a one-game ban.

New Leeds boss Rohan Smith will get the chance to assess his squad on Tuesday when he finally arrives from Australia. The club are still waiting to hear news on Zak Hardaker after he suffered a suspected seizure last week.

Hardaker rejoined Leeds last Tuesday, but he was soon hospitalised, and Leeds have yet to learn the full extent of his illness.

Leeds were not the only club affected by suspensions on Monday, with Hull KR prop Albert Vete and Huddersfield’s Matty English both due to miss Saturday’s Challenge Cup semi-final because of suspensions (Giants 8/13, Draw 20/1, Hull KR 11/8 – match winner).
