Magic Modric remains a Madridista

Luka Modric

Real Madrid’s hopes of retaining La Liga and the Champions League next season have been handed a boost with midfielder Luka Modric signing a one-year contract extension.

The Croatian international was set to become a free agent this summer and there was plenty of speculation regarding the 36-year-old’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Despite his advancing years, the playmaker continues to be a key figure in the middle of the park for Los Blancos (11/10 La Liga outright) and was instrumental in helping his side win a 14th Champions League title this season.

With an 11th season at the Bernabeu now ahead of him, Modric was certainly delighted to secure his future with the European champions, who are 12/1 to win the Champions League next season.

“I’m very happy and proud to carry on at least one more year with Real Madrid,” he said. “I want to continue to give everything for the club, I am proud to continue wearing this shirt.”

During his successful spell in the Spanish capital, Modric has managed to win five Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns and one Copa del Rey.

The former Tottenham star has also lifted four Spanish Super Cups, three European Super Cups and four Club World Cups over 436 appearances for Los Blancos.

Now the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner can look forward to another campaign with Real and if it’s successful and they once again beat Barcelona (13/8 La Liga outright) and Atletico Madrid (9/2) to the title, he could yet further extend his stay with the club.
