England manager Gareth Southgate has named Jarrod Bowen and James Justin in his squad for the first time as the Three Lions prepare to play Hungary, Germany and Italy in the Nations League (England 11/2 to win the World Cup 2022 – Outright).
Bowen was in contention to be named in the previous England squad in March, but he was ruled out after fracturing a bone in his foot. The 25-year-old scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists for the Hammers this season, and his form has been rewarded after a thrilling campaign.
Leicester City’s James Justin is another that has made the grade, while Fikayo Tomori returns after his recent Serie A title success with AC Milan.
Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips and Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier return after recent injuries, while Jordan Henderson will sit out after an energy-sapping campaign which will conclude with Saturday’s Champions League final.
Liverpool team-mate Joe Gomez also misses out, meaning Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only member of the Reds squad to make the grade.

Southgate has decided to select 11 defenders due to injury concerns, while Roma’s Tammy Abraham returns after scoring 27 goals in all competitions for his club this season.
Manchester United pair Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford miss out after poor campaigns for the Red Devils, while James Maddison is a surprise absentee, especially after he bagged 17 goals and 11 assists for Leicester in all competitions.
The majority of the headlines surrounding Tuesday’s announcement focused on Bowen, and Southgate says the 25-year-old deserves all the praise after a stellar few months (England 1/4 to win World Cup Group B – Outright).
He told reporters at his press conference: “We were certainly thinking about involving him in March before he got injured.
“He’s a goal threat, and his direct journey is an interesting reminder that you don’t have to be at an elite academy – experience is a great route to go.
“He works incredibly hard for the team, which we want all our players to do. He thoroughly deserves his call-up.”
