Corberan tells Terriers to hold their nerve

Huddersfield Town's John Smith's Stadium

Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan has warned his players to not get wrapped up in the occasion and concentrate on the job in hand when they entertain Luton Town in Monday’s Championship play-off semi-final second leg (Match betting – Huddersfield 5/4, draw 11/5, Luton 13/5).

The first leg finished all square at 1-1 so it’s all to play for with a place at Wembley in the final up for grabs, where the winner will face either Sheffield United or Nottingham Forest in a straight shootout to make it up to the Premier League.

Corberan’s side are favourites to progress at 4/7 being at home in the second leg and they beat the Hatters 2-0 in the regular league fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium last month – Luton are 5/4 to make it to Wembley.

The Terriers boss says it’s important the players concentrate on what they have to do on the pitch and try to ignore the fact the club are potentially two games away from making it back up to the top flight.

“Don’t be crazy with the atmosphere of the game and be focused in what happens on the pitch because it’s football,” he said.

“The more we concentrate on the detail can help us to perform well and the more happiness we will give to our fans, so we need to be focused in the things that we do – how we attack, how we defend.”

After the first game ended level, Corberan is expecting another tough and tight tussle against the Hatters, who finished sixth, three places and seven points behind his side, in the final Championship table.

He added: “If you play a play-off and you don’t expect a demanding game, you are totally wrong. I expect the demands and the challenges to produce another equal and balanced game.”

Ollie Turton is a big injury doubt for Huddersfield, with Pipa on stand-by to start in his absence, while Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill is expected to be recalled after recovering from illness.

Luton are likely to again be without injured trio Luke Berry, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu and Fred Onyedinma, while Henri Lansbury is doubtful, but 16-goal top scorer Elijah Adebayo could return for the trip to West Yorkshire.
