Chelsea reach final after routine Palace win

FA Cup Betting Odds: Tuchel keen to bounce back against Palace

Chelsea will face Liverpool in the final of the FA Cup after they defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday.

The Blues, looking to regain the trophy they last won in 2018 when they defeated Manchester United, produced the perfect response to being dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in midweek.

Chelsea had to remain patient after a first half that yielded few chances – Palace’s defensive rear guard proving to be tough to beat.

However, it was a former Palace man who finally broke the deadlock in the 65th minute as Ruben Loftus-Cheek – on as a substitute in the first half for the injured Mateo Kovacic – fired home from the edge of the box via a slight deflection off Joachim Andersen.

The Eagles then needed to chase the game and Chelsea doubled their advantage when Mason Mount scored after being teed up by Timo Werner.

It means there will be a repeat of the League Cup final as Chelsea face Liverpool in another chapter of the rivalry between the two sides.

Liverpool won on that occasion after a mammoth penalty shootout in which Chelsea keeper Kepa blazed his effort over the bar.

Speaking after the game, Loftus-Cheek said he is determined to get one over on the Reds and is content with his own role in the team, despite not being a regular starter.

“I always believed in myself and I always wanted to play for Chelsea,” Loftus-Cheek said. “I have played quite a lot this season, I am happy.

“We want to get them (Liverpool) back, simple as that. It was a fantastic game in the League Cup final and could have gone either way.”
