Championship Betting Odds: O'Brien relishing play-off scrap

Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien says his team are in the driving seat as they prepare to face play-off rivals Luton Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday (Match betting – Huddersfield 11/8, Draw 11/5, Luton 9/4).

The Terriers (6/1 – to be promoted) are one place and one point above Monday’s opponents Luton, but their recent run of form has caused some fans to panic that they may slip out of the top six in the Championship.

Carlos Corberan’s men have defied expectations all season, but they have only won one of their previous five in all competitions.

Thankfully for Huddersfield, they have only lost two of their previous 15 at home, but Luton (13/2 – to be promoted) will make the trip north on the back of a four-match unbeaten run.

This year’s play-off battle looks like it will go down to the wire and O’Brien says his team need to prove they can handle the increased expectation levels.

He told Yorkshire Live: “I think it’s a different pressure because when you’re fighting relegation, if you stay out the relegation zone, it’s not like you’ve actually achieved anything.

“We’re now in a position where if we don’t at least get to the play-offs, it’ll be a disappointment for everyone, and that’s where the nerves and anxiety comes.

“We’re in the driver’s seat now; it’s one of those things. There’s a lot more pressure, and it’s a different kind of anxiety because the pressure’s on us.”

Corberan will be able to call upon Jonathan Hogg and Danny Ward after they missed the win over Hull City due to illness, but Matty Pearson is still on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Hatters striker Cameron Jerome is a doubt due to injury, but Nathan Jones has very few issues to contend with.
